Fallen Admirals

Since linking the blog to Facebook, several people have asked about Admirals listed on the In Memoriam page. Many are hearing about lost classmates for the first time, so are naturally curious as to how and when their friends passed away, especially those who were still so young.

Over the years of keeping in touch with so many of you, having a couple of websites up, etc., I’ve received news like this many times, sometimes with details, sometimes just a name and graduating year. In a few cases, I knew the person who passed away, and it always makes me sad to hear of the passing of a fellow Admiral. Last night, I got news of someone from my own class who passed away three years ago–Mike Jaramillo. Adding his name to the list was particularly difficult.

The In Memoriam page is a way to inform everyone of friends lost, but it’s mostly a way to honor them and keep them in our memories. In keeping with that goal, I’d rather not publish too many details about anyone’s passing. Everyone grieves differently, and I would hate to upset or offend anyone by overstepping any bounds in discussing the circumstances of their sibling’s or friend’s death.

What I can do is provide a few links that may shed some light on those questions people have about their friends and classmates. Some information can be found with a simple Google search. Also, if you knew someone on the memorial list and would like to leave a comment about them that might help others, or just share a good memory of them, please feel free to do so. Thank you.
